It’s been a while since I’ve written an article on the warriors without borders blog. I am the type of person and writer who doesn’t write for the sake of it, as I only pour energy into something I feel God wants me to do. Recently I read a small article written by Michael Basham (a full time member of TFI) about his desire to see revival in The Family International, I found the article very interesting and it also coincided with a video Michael produced on youtube about the same subject. As a result of seeing Michael’s article and video I felt led to write an article on what a revival in TFI could look like, and why God might be interested in causing revival in TFI.
According to Michael Basham TFI is presently in a semi- dormant state as the group adjusts to recent changes in the organization. For those not informed TFI was originally spawned as a group called The Children of God (COG) in the late 1960’s. COG burst onto the scene back in the 1960’s and 70’s through the hippy movement, when David Berg (a well known evangelist and Christian Minister) converted a number of drug using rocker hippies to Jesus Christ. These rockers, druggies and hippies made a genuine decision to follow Jesus Christ, and they led one of the biggest Jesus youth movements to ever be seen. The founding of COG led to a number of other youth Jesus movements which included The Jesus people. COG were bound by no church building and its members were made up of full time disciples and evangelists. One major aspect of COG was its music. Many of the hippies who joined COG were hippy musicians, and they produced a variety of spaced out Christian music that touched youth all over America and the globe. Influenced by: the Beatles, the doors, Elvis Presley and other artists; COG members produced some real out of the box Christian music that really touched the youth and swelled COG membership numbers. COG music accompanied with David Berg’s: dreams, visions, prophecies (some of which actually came to pass) and extensive Biblical theology knowledge produced a massive Christian street movement. Youth played Christian music on the street and shared prophetic truths in public squares as opposed to church buildings. Even celebrities such as Jeremy Spencer who was a guitarist for Fleetwood Mak joined COG. Jeremy became a major contributing musician to COG/TFI and can be heard and seen on youtube playing music with TFI members.
A major gift of the Holy Spirit that manifested through David Berg during his leadership days with TFI was the gift of prophecy. The gift of prophecy mainly worked through Berg in the form of dreams and visions. One prophetic dream Berg did have that turned out to be genuine was a dream that the mark of the beast would be a microchip. Most analysts today believe that the mark of the beast will be a microchip, however Berg was the first person to come to this conclusion decades before anyone saw this coming. This in my view is evidence that Berg had a genuine gift of prophecy.
As a person who has evaluated hundreds of TFI writings in the last year or two, I have observed Karen Zerby (also known as Maria and one of the primary leaders of TFI) stating in TFI writings that TFI will receive major spiritual gifts in the coming years. These gifts according to Zerby relate to performing healings and miracles. According to Zerby these miracles will get worldwide attention and bring media attention to the group. In TFI’s early years they definitely got a lot of positive media attention, after many youth had positive testimonies about coming to Jesus after leaving a life of hopelessness and dangerous street drugs. If TFI members do receive major gifts of the Holy Spirit such as healing and miracles, this could certainly bring renewed attention to the group and cause more people to join them. TFI’s Bible doctrines with respect to the timing of the rapture and tribulation do seem accurate as opposed to the false pre-trib rapture being preached today, so its possible God could cause people to join TFI in order for them to receive correct Biblical doctrine with regard to end time events.
According to prophetic writings and supernatural confirmations received by myself, I believe members of TFI will receive gifts of the Holy Spirit outlined in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)
My primary reason for supporting TFI (although I am not presently a member) is that the Holy Spirit has supernaturally confirmed this group to be authentic to me. I have recieved supernatural communication from the Holy Spirit that this group is genuinely of God. The prophecies Karen Zerby (aka: Maria) has received regarding the keys of the kingdom are genuine, and TFI members and those following the teachings of David Berg and Karen Zerby will recieve the keys of the kingdom gift. The keys of the kingdom gift allows people to perform and receive supernatural miracles. These supernatural miracles include; receiving physical angelic assistance (angels physically manifesting and assisting you with tasks in the physical dimension). There are other supernatural things the keys of the kingdom can access but I’m not going to speculate on them, but I did receive a confirmation that angelic spirit helpers are a part of the keys of the kingdom.
When a revival of TFI occurs you will see the gifts of the Holy Spirit and a number of miracles operating through this group, and you will also see a number of supernatural exploits related to manifestations of angels and other phenomena. As these exploits and supernatural occurrences take place you will see TFI grow, and you will see many people join the TFI movement. I definitely think these spiritual gifts and supernatural phenomena are needed to deal with the darkness of today. If TFI wishes to go back to the beginning and re-live their beginning when they evangelized to drug induced hippies, they will be entering a far darker place than the 1960’s. Todays drugs are far more powerful than: LSD, cocaine or heroin, and the youth of today are in a far darker place than they were 50 years ago. It’s going to take a major supernatural outpouring and the gifts of the Holy Spirit to reach today’s youth. I myself know a lot of youth today and they are beyond out of control. Kids in their mid teens I know are constantly high on crystal meth and similar drugs, and it has turned them into the most violent criminals you could imagine. Listening to rap music encouraging crime and taking some of the most dangerous drugs ever created, has brought many youth into a dark abyss not seen in decades. If TFI wants to reach todays hippies they will definitely need supernatual assistance from God. I believe when revival comes and God equips TFI members to reach todays youth with supernatural weapons and tools, you will begin to see a new revival of Jesus Christ take place. I think many of TFI critics have focused too much on the negative, everyone makes mistakes and if your looking for a perfect fellowship your never going to find it. If your looking for perfect Christians you will never find them. The founders of TFI and many TFI members have done a lot of amazing and positive things for Jesus Christ, and it cannot be denied that the group was responsible for the Jesus youth revival in the 1960’s and 70’s. My prayer and desire is that TFI experiences a supernatural outpouring by God, so that they can change the lives of the so many lost youth out there.
